Finding your definition of success

As I reflect on my journey and what truly drives me, I’ve come to realize that at the core of my motivations is learning—not just for myself, but for the sake of helping others. For me, success isn’t about hitting a certain milestone; it’s about reaching my potential through continuous growth, both intellectually and personally, and using what I’ve learned to make a positive impact on those around me.

How did I figure this out? Honestly, it took a lot of reflection. I had to step back and really think about who I am, what I enjoy, and what makes me feel fulfilled. One key lesson I learned is that true self-awareness isn’t just about knowing your strengths and weaknesses—it’s about embracing your individuality and recognizing how it can be an advantage. Feedback from others also played a big role, helping me see myself through a different lens.

For me, the most rewarding part of learning is helping others improve. Whether it’s through tutoring, cricket coaching, or simply sharing knowledge, nothing feels better than seeing someone else grow. That’s why I’m drawn to teaching—not in the traditional sense, but in ways that allow me to share what I’ve learned and help others reach their potential.

One thing I’ve also learned is the importance of balancing ambition with well-being. Yes, I’m ambitious about my future—I see myself working in actuarial science and eventually becoming an actuarial lecturer. But that doesn’t mean I ignore the need for rest, reflection, and enjoyment. At my age, it’s crucial to find that balance—giving myself the space to grow while also making sure I’m not burning out.

If there’s one thing I’d tell someone struggling to figure out their path, it’s this: there’s always time. It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out right now. Trust your gut, be open to change, and know that every experience—everyday lesson—adds value to your journey. Even if it feels slow at times, that’s part of your growth.

For me, continuous learning is the key to success. Whether I’m learning about actuarial science, improving my skills, or even just reflecting on life, every bit of knowledge shapes who I am and who I want to be. And in the future, whether in a corporate role or as a lecturer, I want to continue helping others reach their potential through what I learn and share.

In the end, your definition of success might look different from mine. But by focusing on growth, helping others, and staying true to who you are, I believe we can all find our own version of success.
